hi everybody! i'm new here, of course. me and my wife are looking for a small dog. we had a dog, but he ran away. she wants a small inside dog, and i'm not really a small dog kinda guy, but i'll get her what she wants.

anybody have any good suggestions on small dogs that are good with small children and cats? we dont have any kids yet, but we will someday. we have a cat. a very large cat, last time we took him to the vet he weighted 19lbs.

Welcome to the forum! My advice is to go check out the dogs available for adoption at your local shelter. Many of the dogs there have great coping skills and have been around other animals there. Many are already full grown so you can pick your size. Plus, they need a great home like yours! Thats where I got both of my dogs, and they are the sweetest things ever! Good luck to ya!

You're like most guys, they hardly ever think they're a small-dog-kind-of-guy, but with your wife's persuasion of getting a small dog, you'll find that some of the smallest dogs have the BIGGEST [dog] personalities. :D

Definitely check out the shelters. Just remember, 'small' is relative. I have one 'small' dog and two large puppies. The 15 month old puppy weighs 140 pounds, the 10 month old about 100 pounds, and the little dog weighs 60 pounds. And they're all house dogs. My German Shepherd and GSD/mix dogs and now these Filas have all been easier to deal with in the house than any truly small dog I've ever been around.
