You know how pit bulls sometimes go nuts because their skull is too small for their brain and it hurts so much they go "round the bend" and start biting? (sorry if I'm pissing a pitbull owner off, but I've been told that alot). Well, this dumb lady I know said that that sometimes happens to german shepards, too. Now, I have never heard of this, and I just wanna make sure.

Thanks for your trouble

German Shepherds as any breed need their brain stimulated. German Shepherds are said to have the brain of a two year old child, they need training, lots of exercise and lots of socialization. There is no such thing as a stupid dog, it's stupid owners !
The more you work with your dog the smarter it will become.

Do you mean their brain grows to big for their skull?

I have heard of that with Saint Bernards but never anything else. I always thought it was crap but a friend of mine had hers go nuts one day. The vet blamed it on that from poor breeding. The dog came from a backyard breeder.

Someone mentioned that on another forum and I have never heard of it with anything but Saint Bernards. I will say I believe it because a vet said it, but hey vets can be wrong too.

I just called a very reputable Saint Bernard breeder for her opinion on the brain thing. SHe said likely it was a tumor because it is not possible for the brain to grow to big for the skull. She said it is such a wide spread wives tale that most vets who do not specialise in dogs believe it and treat based on it.

sounds rather silly. I'd be inclined to believe that is an old wives tales or something.
