After Brutus getting sick from eating my peace lilly I called the emergency vet. my vet recommends. They gave me advice. But, what she asked me blew my mind.
She asked me if I had any Sago Palms in my yard, I told her yes we have one big one.( I dearly love this plant) Luckily he didn't eat this. I had heard they were poisonous but I didn't know how poisonous they were.
She told me one leaf will cause a dog, complete shutdown. They have to be put to sleep. I have never seen my dogs mess with it but why take the chance? I really do love it but I love my dogs more, and after tonight I can't take the chance. I have to think about them and my granddaughter. If it is poisonous to dogs it may do the same thing to her. If you have one get rid of it. It is a life or death situation. I also found out oleanders, which were the ones I always worried about, won't kill an animal but it will cause gatrointestinal problems.
Please, if you have any sago palms get rid of them, no matter how beautiful they are.
