Weight check, all you mastiff owners

I took Brutus in for his weight check and he weighed 102. The last weigh-in was September 7, he weighed 63 lbs. He will be 6 months on the 7th of November. Is his weight where it should be? He doesn't feel overweight. I thought he would weigh about 80 lbs. Boy was I wrong. The vet said to double up on his heartworm pills since he is now over 100 lbs. They didn't think he would be that big until the end of November or maybe December.

As long as you can still feel his ribs when you lightly press his skin, he should be an okay weight. I wonder how big he will be at maturity.

His mom weighed 130 lbs., and dad ,they said was 185 lbs .He should be pretty large. I'm just concerned with him gaining 39 lbs in less than two months. No wonder he is growing out of proportion. lol

These creatures grow in strange spurts, Fila. He's at the age where he's going to start really putting on muscle, which weighs a great deal more than baby-fat weight. Shiva weighed right at 100 pounds at 6 months. He'll slow down a good bit after he's a bit older. Right now you're on the tail end of the fastest part of his growing.

Doesn't sound abnormal at all for a giant breed. There were days when my dane would gain a pound overnight :eek:

I just hope his tail end and head will catch up soon. Hopefully the next scale jump will fill in those areas. To bad you can't feed them something to make the rest of the body catch up. Ham hocks to fill in the ham hocks. Head cheese to make the head grow.lol
