If your dog has lost enough weight for you to be concerned it is definitely time for a trip to the vet in my opinion.

It is probably something minor, such as worms which are readily taken care of with the appropriate medication, but it can also be a sign of other problems that definitely need vet care.

Stay optimistic but do take your furpal to the vet.

i agree with Poodlesmom and i would tend to agree that it most likely is a parasite but go to the vet to be sure. dont wait go now :D

Take a stool sample . Have you checked the anus area for any traces of tape worms ?? The segments look like dried rice.

Honestly, although worms can cause a small amount of weight loss they usually do not. In fact, the majority of the time they make the dog look fatter and bloated. I would be more concerned with a metabolic dissorder, thyroid problem or kidney or liver disease. Your dog needs blood work at your vet to find out what's wrong.

What kind of dog is it and how old?
It could be EPI wich is a pancreatic digestive disorder.

How is your dog's stool? Is it solid? Any jelly stuff on it? No appetiate to eat?

Daisy JUST had whip worms, and she lost lots of weight but the problem was she was skinny when we got her and probably had them when we got her so we saw little difference until she started getting lethargic. Take your pup to the vet with a stool sample and ask them to test for worms, but make sure you give them all the symptoms so they can have a better picture of what is going on. Is
your pup drinking a lot of water? That is something that will happen with whipworm, but can also be a sign of worse things so definatly go to the vet.
