Hello All,

My dogs name is Oscar, a Jack Russell, Fox Terrier mix. I recently adopted him from a shelter and had him for about a week so far. He's a great dog. Last night while playing with another dog, he started to rub himself in vomit. Someone had stated that he ate something and then vomited. I found this to be very strange. Anyone have any idea what this could be or have heard of this behaviour before?

Alot of dogs like to roll in stinky things.

Like:
Cow dung
dead animals
rotten fish
etc.

I think that rolling in stinky things is pretty normal for dogs.

I would be more worried about what he ate, and why he threw up.

And welcome to chazhound. Congrats on adopting a shelter dog.

I hope all is well.

Just as Julie said, dogs love stinky things. The stinkier the better. Some say that when dogs hunt to mask thier scent they would roll in something to cover their own smell so the prey object couldn't detect them.
My dogs have rolled in:
fish guts
dead skunk
porcupine
any thing dead
human poop
other animal poop - must be stinky
anal gland secreations
garbage that has gained top stinky quality

The list goes on. :)
