In the past 2 weeks, my 12 week-old beagle Muddy has been getting worse and worse at barking and howling. He barks and whines to the following things: when he's on the leash and can't get to something that he wants to chew or explore, when we crate him and leave (or even stay in) the room, when he's in his playpen (with toys) and we leave (or stay in) the room, basically when he doesn't get his way. We try very hard to never give him what he wants when he's barking about it. I was thinking that maybe we DO give him what he wants, but he just thinks that it takes time. Like when he's barking for attention, he'll go for a few minutes, and once he's done, I come and praise him for being quiet. You think that he thinks that those minutes of barking eventually lead him to what he wants? Help please!
