about giving your dog a bath?
I don't like giving Dallas a bath b/c its so hard getting all the shampoo out of his coat. Its so fluffy and I don't know how to get all of it out. Any suggestions? I rinse him really good but I still don't get it all out.

I hate giving Charlie a bath because I get all wet. :D He always tries to get out of the bath tub, and when he almost succeeds, I have to kinda "carry" him back in. And when we take him out of the tub, he shakes himself off which gets me wet also. And another thing, I think our hose is mental or something. It always gets me wet. :D

I take Toby in the shower and I hate how he walks back and forth the whole time trying to get away from the water. He steps all over my feet.

LOl Fran.
Oh fran do I just keep rinsing Dallas for awhile so the shampoo comes out? I bought some really good dog shampoo the other day and I bathed Dallas w/ it and it worked great on getting his coat softer, shiner, and more healthier!

When I am bathing a dog (I have Newfoundland dogs...very big coats  ). I use a really good shampoo, or even a homemade shampoo I found on the internet works great as well (mixture of palmolive dish soap, glycerine and white vinegar)...its also a good investment to get a hand shower nozzle, the type you can move around.
I lather up, brush through the coat...nothing better than a wet soapy coat to brush out all the undercoat and clumpy coats...it also helps to get dirt out as well. I have some special bathing rubber brushes I ordered...they last forever and are great for using on a wet soapy dogs. After I have them all lathered up, and brushed in the tub, I start rinsing, starting with the head and down the neck...chest, arm pits (amazing how many people miss the arm pits)...I hold the nozzle right up to the coat and hold in one place for a few seconds. I then rinse off the entire back, tail under the tail...another place that is missed is between the should blades. I then bring the nozzle down each leg, up again down the tail, under the tail etc. After you have the dog rinsed from head to tail and undercarraige I go over them one more time. You will know the dog is completely soap free when the water runs clear of bubbles. ;) . Make sure you keep the nozzle on top of the coat and move across every inch of the dog...don't assume that by rinsing the head the neck will be rinsed. ;). I also rinse each paw, lift up and rinse underneath as well...we had one Newf get an infection between his toes from not being rinsed properly between the toes...he just happened to be 1 in 100 dogs that the soap stayed between his toes.
The only thing I hate about grooming my Newf's is one of my females gets very lazy and will lay down in the tub. I have to hold her up the entire bath...she is not a small dog weighing almost 140 lbs. She does the same for the grooming table when being blown dry...she constantley hangs her head. She was not a joy when being shown and having to groom once a week.

Something else about his bath. I have to use a special shampoo on him and it has to be left on for ten minutes. Imagine us just standing in the shower for ten minutes and he is giving me this look like "why are you doing this to me?" the whole time.

Zeus is actually great to bathe. I bathe him in the driveway with a hose. He doesn't like water, but he'll stand very still for me and give me the "I can't believe you're doing this to me" look. What I hate is the post-bathing. I can't put him in the yard, or he'll roll around in the dirt and turn into a giant mud ball. If I put him in the house, he'll fling his damp body all over the furniture and I end up with a couch that smells like a wet dog. So I end up walking him up and down the street until he dries.
I hate the fact that I can't blow dry him at all without getting snapped at. And he barks his head off if I put him in a grooming dryer cage. So we just started to vigorously towel dry and call it good.

Nothing. I LOVE giving dogs baths, especially Belly since she's so well behaved. She loves the water too, especially with her floating toys :D

For my goldens... it's easy to bath them because they jump in and lie down... they love baths...and when it's warm enough they get bathed in the river... I lather them and throw in rocks and sticks and away they go.. and since they dive for the rocks they always get well rinsed.... But in the tub... I wash them.. and then I rinse with a shower head from the head down.. to neck.. to legs, under arms.. and back.. belly.. hind legs.. under hind legs.. and finish with the tail... if you have a good shower head and water pressure (they love it) it will be easy... also brush as you wash...

Yukon jumps into the bathtub and sits while I wash him. The hard part is getting the curtain across before he shakes all over me. Usually he waits until I am shutting the water off and then he gives a big shake.
I bathe my dogs at the grooming shop. Nothing difficult about it, I don't hate it at all. (In fact I love how nice they look and smell after they're done.)
Oh, Sawyer's easy to bathe. It's just getting him dry that's the problem. :)

Phew! For a while, I thought my golden retriever was the only crazy dog who did that. What I thought was funny was when we threw a rock in the shallows. She's just stick her head in and snorkel around until she found it.

Dallas did the funniest thing in the bath yesterday.
I had one of those red plastic cups in the tub so i could rinse him off, and I threw it to the other side of the tub and Dallas was playing w/ it and the cup filled up w/ water and went to the bottom of the tub. Dallas stuck his head under the water to grab the cup but he inhaled water instaed. Of course, I was horrified so I checked on him and just played in the tub w/ the cup acting as if nothing ever happened. It funny now that I look back at it, but you had to be there to see it.

The girls hate baths. In warm weather I bathe them outside, I tie them up and wash them with a hose. Colby is pretty good, she does try to get away if she can but she usually just stands there and squints when I squirt her. May stands still and sneaks off if she can. I have to tie Tippy up tight otherwise she runs away, lol, she's getting better though. I need to get one of those shower heads for the bathtub though so it's easier to bathe them in the winter.

I bathe my dogs once a month. And if they roll in something and get all smelly. If possible though I just wipe them off and spray on dog cologne.

WOW Tobysmom! Thats alot of bathing!
I wouldn't imagine bathing a Crested is a big ordeal, though. You just clean the skin and shampoo the little patches of hair, no major drying involved.. I guess it'd be like brushing out a coated breed twice a week.

Well keep in mind that you don't want to wash Dallas too much as the natural oils are healthy as well. you might see his skin start to dry out.. I bathe my goldens once a month in the summer (unless they are swimming which is always) and in the winter.. sheesh.. maybe once every other if that?!?! or unless they really need it because they decided to play in the mud...

I hate getting Hannah into the shower to wash her. It is a battle to get her front in and then when that's in and you go to get the back in she gets her front out. Then she will sit down and push herself up agianst the side of the shower so when you are trying to rinse and shampoo her to have to keep shoving her off the side of the tub. Then I hate the sad pitiful look she gives me like I'm abusing her when I rinse her off. Hannah gets so dirty she gets a bath about once a month though, if not more.

Actually i don't have problems with Ike taking a bath. he gets in the tub on his own, i put a towel down first so he doesn't slide, i can tell when he's about to shake so i pull the curtain closed until he's through, and he gets out and lets me dry him off. he does look sad going in the bathroom and solemn getting the bath, but after he's dry, he's bouncing with energy, so goofy! =)

i helped him to be comfortable with it, training and praise also. =) i got him at 12 weeks old. I still think it's great that he jumps in by himself, i would hate to lift him in and out every time, he's like 65-70 pounds! :)

I don't think Hannah will ever like taking baths and I don't know why. She knows that when she gets a bath she gets a treat and new toy and gets to lay on the couch and bed then. She won't shake off in the shower either waits until she gets out and then she'll shake all over me and the whole bathroom. I'll usually close the shower door and make her sit for a couple minutes hoping she'll shake off but she doesn't she just sits there and licks the glass door.

Julie, some dogs like it and some just hate it, and some just have a slight dislike ;) With my 3 Newfoundland dogs one of my female's and my male love the bath tub, my other female tries to lie down and does not enjoy grooming at all. They all started getting baths as early as 4 weeks old, all positive experiences etc. Some like it, some don't.
At the grooming shop we have many dogs that zoom in and run for the tub and jump in. One Customer who owns a Standard Schnauzer was unpleasantly surprised at how much her boy gloak enjoyed the bath tub...she has a huge jacuzzi tub and had her candles going, with beautiful bath oils and relaxing music going, since no one was home she left the bathroom door ajar. Her Giant Schnauzer zoomed in and jumped in with her...was she ever surprised :D

My golden retreiver was the queen of the bath. When we said "bath time", she'd get all excited and run to the door. We bathed her outside with a hose, no leash required. She even knew how to turn around and stop when we asked, to better wash her all over. Then afterwards, she got a long blow dry session with lots of towels and brushes. She'd just lay down like the diva she was, and wallow in all the attention.

Hi!,
I hate giving my dog a bath to! He hates geting a bath plus it freaks him out! I GET ALL WET!! Then i have to take a shower and clean the whole bathroom becuase he gets water and hair (shedding) everywhere! I suggest for your dog using less shampoo or brush him when the shampoo is in and while your rinsing him brush him.
Thats what i do with my dog who has long hair.
Good luck with bathing him/her!

I bath dogs for a living while I'm training as a groomer :/ What I hate most is getting them BONE dry. The bathing part isn't too bad unless they are agressive or run around all over the place. Also bathing big dogs is hard getting them to turn where as with a small dog you can just pick them up and place them somewhere.
