The pads on Peanut's feet are very rough, like she's been walking on concrete all day long. Is there anything I can use on her feet to soften the pads?

I think it's supposed to be good when their pads are tough...they're tough pads are like the bottom of our shoes...they protect their feet. But using lotion on her pads is a good way to keep them healthy.

rough pads can be an indication of lack of zinc in the diet.

an easy, safe way to supplement zinc in a natural way is to feed 3-4 canned oysters a week. if it is a diet related issue, you should see a noticeable change within about 4 weeks.

Dont forget when doing brake pads to have the discs and drums checked for thickness and have them turned.

Sorry back to the original question. Have you ever tried Utter Balm (wow is that going to start up a whole other set of comments :D ) You can get it at the pet store, feed store, even the CVS or other pharmacy. It was originally for cows utters, but people started using it on pets, now people use it. I've used it on the dogs in the winter (also makes a great barrier for the wet and cold) and last yr I had really bad dry skin and used it w/ footies, smells a bit but at night under the covers who care, plus it worked GREAT. It softens it w/o making it too delicate, the skin/pads stay strong. We used it a lot in the vets office and the one nurse started using it on her hands then I bought some. It's a big can and a little goes a long way.
