Hey everyone I need a little advice.. My girl Gpysy was in heat back in July and we did not let her breed.. well, here we are about 60+ day after and she is carrying around her "Babies" toys trying to nurse them plus she has MILK! Weird Dog.. this is the second time she has done this to me.. the first time she even fooled the Vet!! We knew she could not be pregrant but the vet was sure..well, day 54 xrays and no puppies(well Duh)
Well, she is doing it again.. She WAS NOT BRED!! but she thinks so.. has anyone had this happen to them???

yep, it's called a false pregnancy. my dachshund went through that and even raised an orphaned kitten once with her milk.

a word of caution - don't let this happen all too often. it takes almost the same toll on her body as a real pregnancy and you drastically increase the risk of breast cancer and uterine problems every time you let her go through it.

They're not faking it, they really believe they are pregnant. I read some bítches are distraught when they can't find the pups they think they are supposed to be having. :(

That's so sad, I'm just curious though how would you prevent it besides getting them spayed?

it was very sweet. :) the kitten thought she was a dog. lol :D

there's a pic of ellie nursing the kitten on her dogster page:

in regards to preventing a female from coming into season, yes, there's a gestagen injection that prevents it, but it's not an ideal solution and shouldn't be given indefinitely either. you still have the hormone cycle that increases the risk of cancer.

the best thing to do is to have her spayed.
